Management research Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 3
Management research - Essay Example This makes it possible to understand the various concepts discussed in the paper. It is possible to distinguish between the different concepts, making the paper easily understood. The topic too is appealing to me as party of the audience. It is easily to relate the topic to general issues affecting people, regardless of the organizations or social groupings, they are in. whether in a critical review exercise or general reading, a journal or any paper needs to have good structure, should captivate the reader through the topic selected for study and have a good flow of ideas. This journal article has all these characteristics, thus appealing to me. A number of elements make the project good. The language chosen for instance, easy to understand, with no grammar errors makes it interesting and good. The author makes use of deep research and clarity in explaining the ideas in the project. Although he does not economize on the use of words, he neither uses too many words in the explanations. This makes it an interesting project to read. Additionally, the depth of the research also makes the paper look good. Since the project focuses on a particular concept, the length is enough to cover the entire concepts in depth and to satisfaction. Max Sully, et al. "Contextual Performance And The Job Satisfaction-Dissatisfaction Distinction: Examining Artifacts And Utility."Human Performanceà 22.3 (2009): 246-272.à Academic Search Premier. Web. 15 Oct. 2013. There are a number of things I do not like about the project. The structure of the paper is one of these elements. The structure does not have any appealing power whatsoever to the reader. It looks clumsy and rather unplanned, just from the look of it. The lack of subtopics on the project, and their incorporation only in those areas they appear rather necessary makes it boring to the audience. Some of the concepts appear clumped together, despite being separated by

Approaches to Decision Making Essay Example for Free
Approaches to Decision Making Essay There are two common ways to make decisions regarding changes in an organization, especially when others are involved in the end result. The two ways would be to make decisions individually, making the decision by yourself or by creating a committee, getting others involved in the process. Knowing that something needs to change, means that there has been a problem identified, evaluating alternatives and then selecting the solution. Depending on the problem and the criteria that will be evaluated in making the final decision, this will play an important factor on whether individually making the decision is better than a group decision. When making decisions and changes that are going to effect many, it typically is better to make group decisions. For larger companies, it is typical that a committee or a team would be created. Bringing together individuals of the organization that would be effected by these changes. Having a committee involved in the decision brings more views, thoughts, past experiences and suggestions to the table to be evaluated for optimal solutions. Advantages of a group decision is there are more options contributed, the better chances that decisions made would be accepted by those involved in the decision as well. ââ¬Å"Quantities and diversity of information are greatest when group members represent different specialitiesâ⬠. (Robbins, DeCenzo, Coulter, 2011, p. 71). Finding a suitable solution is half of the battle, the next half would be implementation. By having a group decision enforced, will increase the success of changes since they were a part of it and will encourage change. In the example provided about budgetary concerns, it would be suggested that a committee be created with upper management from finance, human resources, and department managers to discuss how overhead such as employees, supplies and other capital costs are effecting our business. Before having the initial meeting it would be suggested for each manager to evaluate their department and be ready to give suggestion of where they would be able to make individual changes without sacrificing the well being of the patients care. Once all contributions are made from each department, hearing the options of solutions would allow the committee members to discuss theà changes and place value on which options could be most beneficial. Options like reducing employee head count or hours, re-evaluating vendors where supplies are purchased from, eliminating overtime costs by having back up staff available or changing processes by reducing paper trails and going electronic. Each of these will need to be analyzed on immediate consequences or benefits and what the longer term effects will be. The disadvantage of working with a committee is that there will prolong the process of making a decision, more meetings, more time and there could be more resistant from individuals that will need to be ââ¬Å"talked intoâ⬠this decision. In the example about making budget cuts, one could make the decision alone and not consult with any other departments. The individual making decisions to cut staff, supplies or capital costs would need to have a comprehensive understanding of all costs associated with the organization and what implications could be by reducing budgets. Even though it is just one person making the decision, it is very important to still do a thorough evaluation of what the problems are, evaluate multiple solutions and weigh the benefits or consequences of these changes. It would be very important to obtaining financial monthly statements/costs that are associated with each department. The benefit of making decisions solely is that multiple meetings would be eliminated, do not need to ââ¬Å"sellâ⬠your idea or solution to others, and a decision could be made quicker which will save time and money for the organization. The disadvantages of making a decision like this where it effects a group, out weigh the benefits. You do not have access to others input and past experiences who have dealt with similar situations or hearing what concerns your management will have. By not including others, you have a higher chance of the decision not being welcomed by all and having resistant to the change and implementation. References: Robbins, S., DeCenzo, D., Coulter, M. Remediation of Technology for Media Essay
Remediation of Technology for Media Essay Krishna Cahanoo Remediation project- Zombie Apocalypse- Curtin University In your own words, briefly describe the process of remediating your text I began by selecting and using my favorite hobby which is playing video games. I chose a gameplay and part of ââ¬Å"Last of Usâ⬠on the PS3 system and as it is a horror game and opted for a creepy music which is ââ¬Å"Sweet Dreamsâ⬠by Marylyn Manson. I used a simple and easy editor which is ââ¬Å"Microsoft Movie Makerâ⬠to edit the gameplay chosen, creating effects/music and animations. I have an experience over using the editor as Iââ¬â¢m used to create videos and familiar with it. Aster inserting the music file, I added some animations and edited the original voice of the main character (the man) and inserted subtitles to describe his movements and actions. Iââ¬â¢ve encountered some problems while editing and saving the video as it was quite a large Format (Full HD), for a result I had to convert and compress the file into an Mp4 format which really made it easier. Another issue was when creating subtitles I had to choose a visible font and color as the video itself is a dark concept. The biggest challenged I faced was to look for the perfect music, before choosing ââ¬Å"sweet dreamsââ¬â¢ by Marylyn Manson, I tried with many other, this took time every time I had to insert and edit a music file. This project took me a long time to do and thanks to it Iââ¬â¢ve gained knowledge of copyrights and to further improve my understanding. Finally, I uploaded my remediated work via you tube and also shared it to my Facebook page. In what ways does your remediated text demonstrate an understanding of how remediation impacts on the contemporary media environment? To my understanding innovation and new resources proceeds to the leading role through the concept of remediation. If we consider my own remediated work that I made, it required heavy use of new resources and technology, those are different softwareââ¬â¢s applications which all forms part of a new technology. In other words nowadays a remediated work or concept is more likely to be created and made through the contribution of new and efficient media identities. Whats more is that in todayââ¬â¢s era an audience have grown into creators and distributors compared to long ago an audience were only regarded as consumers. The new media environment somehow turned each and every one of us with the capability and skills to generate, share and having access to media, thus this make us a ââ¬Å"Participatory cultureâ⬠(Botler Grusin, 2012) Referring to the music by Marylyn Manson ââ¬Å"Sweet Dreamsâ⬠if we compare the remediated project to the original one, there were a significant change in their original conception. A huge gap of difference is to be noted like the original music was released in the late 1990ââ¬â¢s and at that time there were no Mp3ââ¬â¢s or devices thus the music could only be played through audio CD. Now thanks to technology I converted the audio CD into an easier format which is accessible everywhere that is the MP3. In my remediated project those changes are superficial through the production and editing, thus the most noticeable modification would be use of technology. What key themes and/or concepts covered in the unit do you think are raised by your remediation? Why/How? In this unit of Engaging Media 104, the key concepts covered through my remediation are the different concepts of this unit, those are of ââ¬ËNew Mediaââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËParticipatory Cultureââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËThe Fair useââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËCopyrightââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËMedia Convergenceââ¬â¢. The approach my remediated work reflects those concepts are in diverse ways. Through the conception of ââ¬Å"New Mediaâ⬠, for my project I used different practices of ââ¬Å"New Mediaâ⬠. Those are the access to the internet and using the latest software on a laptop to create my remediation work. From using ââ¬Å"Media Convergenceâ⬠, with the mixture of a music form artist Marylyn Manson and using the gameplay video of the game ââ¬Å"Last Of usâ⬠, animations and subtitles which I mixed to generate the remediated concept. Referring to another approach which is the ââ¬Å"Participatory Cultureâ⬠, my remediated project made me not only an audience member or public but turned me into a creator and producer. The notions of ââ¬Å"Copyrightâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Fair Useâ⬠were reproduced in my remediated work in the video description. Iââ¬â¢ve mentioned use for an academic use and also mentioned and gave credit to the original owners which is Sony Computer Entertainment and Marylyn Manson on the description figure. My remediation work reflect a different approach from the original gameplay of ââ¬Å"Last of Usâ⬠as Iââ¬â¢ve describe it with different captions and added a music effect. To conclude, my remediated work followed and amplified the trend of new media and also traditional media. In the case of new media Iââ¬â¢ve used an audio CD of the music ââ¬Å"Sweet Dreamsâ⬠which is now considered as a traditional media and turned it into a new format to be able to use it in my remediation work. Gender and Power Relations in Browningââ¬â¢s Porphriaââ¬â¢s Lover and My Last D
Gender and Power Relations in Browningââ¬â¢s Porphriaââ¬â¢s Lover and My Last Duchess Robert Browning provides a critical view of gender and power relations in his dramatic monologues ââ¬Å"Porphyriaââ¬â¢s Loverâ⬠and ââ¬Å"My Last Duchess.â⬠The dramatic monologue, as S.S. Curry has written, "reveals the struggle in the depths of the soulâ⬠(11). Browning delves into the minds of characters to show their conceptions of women and ideas of power. He explores the mental processes of the characters, and invites readers to question societal ideas of power and gender. The mental pathologies of the speakers is emphasized, which forces readers to examine the sanity of their own notions of gender dynamics. In the Victorian age, the idea of separate spheres was an integral part of society. Menââ¬â¢s roles involved participation in the marketplace of the industrial society. Women, on the other hand, were expected to remain in the domestic sphere. They were assigned subordinate, and often passive roles, whereas men played direct roles in an industrial society, therefore being active agents. William Gregââ¬â¢s review-essay ââ¬Å"Prostitutionâ⬠(1851) provides insight into societal conceptions of men and women and their respective roles. Although Greg believes prostitutes are treated unfairly by society, he nonetheless views prostitution as ââ¬Å"the darkest, the knottiest, and the saddestâ⬠social problem ââ¬Å"which philosophy has to deal withâ⬠(448). A critical reason prostitution is ostracized is because it violates traditional ideas of gender relations. Prostitutes are women who participate in the marketplace. They, therefore, venture outside the realm of their expected sphere, the home. This is dissonant with Gregââ¬â¢s view ââ¬â which is a reflection of societyââ¬â¢s view ... ...nventional gender relationships. They were assumed to be the active agents and women were expected to be passive. Browning draws attention to the madness of the narrators by delving into their minds. In doing so, Browning forces readers to question their own conceptions of gender and power relations, since the menââ¬â¢s views are but an exaggeration of societal ideas concerning gender dynamics. Fast Foods vs. Home Made Foods
These days, most people prefer fast food rather than home-made food. People are alike in needing food in order to survive, but they differ in choosing the kind of food they're having. Fast food and home-made food have considerable dissimilarities in preparation time, convenience, and quality. Despite the health risks that come with fast food consumption, people continue to eat it because many people have no time to select and prepare food at home. However, fast food need not be as unhealthy as its reputation. One advantage of home-made meals over fast food is its cheaper cost. However, because you also spend on seasoning, condiments and gas and electricity whenever you cook at home, the cost difference is quite possibly not as large as many believe. In addition, home-made meals generally take more time to prepare and require you to have cooking skills. On the other hand, the taste of home-made meals is generally better, because you are able to select fresh ingredients. You are also ab le to ensure the ingredients that go into your food are clean and free of contaminants. Nowadays, fast food attracts people more than home-made food does. It's known as the food that you don't have to prepare.Fast food is more common because people are always busy, and in a hurry, so they head towards fast food restaurants to save their time. For example, if a worker works for a long time and doesn't have enough time to cook a meal, (he/she) will definitely consume a fast food meal. Fast food is also common because it's convenient and people can find fast food restaurants in all places. In conclusion, both fast food and home-made food have significant divergence in preparation time, convenience and quality. Fast food might be better in saving time and being more convenient, while home-made food might be better in quality.

The Friendship Between Huckleberry Finn and Jim
A Special Friendship Racial equality has been an issue throughout the history of the United States. The problem stems from the legalization of slavery. From then on, people of all the different races have advocated for the rights of minorities. One of those such people, who strove to break the barriers, was Mark Twain. In his novel, The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, A young white boy named Huck sets out in adventure with a black slave named Jim. Throughout it, Hucks relationship grows from one of acquaintance to one of friendship, teaching Huck to go against society. Twain makes a social statement that a color should not define a person. In the beginning of the novel, Huckââ¬â¢s relationship with Jim is one of only acquaintance. He has had minimal contact with Jim and sees him as merely just slave. Huck doesnââ¬â¢t fully acknowledge the fact that he has feelings. He even allows Tom to play a trick on Jim, ââ¬Å"Tom said he slipped Jimââ¬â¢s hat off and Hung it on the treeà ¢â¬ (Twain 6). Although he did try to stop Tom from doing, Huck doesnââ¬â¢t think much about it , as he doesnââ¬â¢t really care about Jim since he is just a slave. After the incident Jim comes to believe that witches rode him all over the world and that the hat was left on the tree. Huck never tells him the truth.By the time Jim and Huck have set out in the raft, theyââ¬â¢ve developed a special bond. Huck doesnââ¬â¢t fully understand this until he plays a mean joke on Jim that leaves Jim deeply hurt,â⬠when I got all wore out wid work, en wid calling you, en went to sleep my heart was mos broke bekause you woz los, (â⬠¦ ) , en all you could think of how you make a fool uv ole jim, (Twain 55) After the incident, Huck comes to the realization that Jim isnââ¬â¢t just a slave but a person. Huck knows he has feeling and from this point on he begins to question the morality of slavery. Huckââ¬â¢s relationship with Jim eventually grows into friendship. They both care about each other and look out for one another. In many instances Huck saves Jim from being captured, ââ¬Å"But lawsly, How you did fool em, Huck dat was the smartes dodge! (Twain 96). â⬠Huck goes out on a limb to save Jim from being captured by slave hunters. This demonstrates how their relationship has completely changed. There is now trust and commitment in their friendship. Jim also looks out for Huck. Jim is almost like a father figure to Huck because he takes care of him in a way that only fathers do, ââ¬Å" He often does that, he gets up and doesnââ¬â¢t wake meâ⬠(pg 155). Jim sacrifices his sleep so the Huck gets a good night rest.Jim is putting Huck first instead of himself, just like a father would do. One of the most important aspects of Huckââ¬â¢s and Jimââ¬â¢s friendship is that Huck learns to go against society. He begins to start thinking for himself and comes to the conclusion that Jim shouldnââ¬â¢t be a slave. Although he struggles with this idea throughout the novel, he eventually makes the final decision to break away from society. This is seen when Huck decides to help jim escape when he is caught, ââ¬Å" All right then, Iââ¬â¢ll go to hellâ⬠(pg, 214). Huck makes a moral decision to go to hell by helping Jim escape. He knows that society tell him it is wrong put does it anyway. After this, Huck sees Jim as his equal. He says ââ¬Å" I knowed that he was white insideâ⬠(276). He comes to the conclusion that Jim is just the same as he is in the inside. The color of Jim skin does not define who he is in the inside. By showing how Huckââ¬â¢s and Jimââ¬â¢s relationship grows from one of acquaintance to friendship, Twain demonstrates how a color should not define a person. Twain himself goes against society to show this powerful message. His massage has had a lasting impact in society. He was able to do this by simply standing up for what he believed in.
Francis Bacon and the Essay Of Revenge
Francis Bacon and the Essay Of Revenge The first major English essayist, Francis Baconà (1561-1626) published three versions of his Essayes or Counsels (1597, 1612 and 1625), and the third edition has endured as the most popular of his many writings. The Essayes, observes Robert K. Faulkner, appeals not so much to self-expression as to self-interest, and does so by supplying enlightened ways to satisfy ones interest. (Encyclopedia of the Essay, 1997) A notable jurist who served as both attorney general and Lord Chancellor of England, Bacon argues in his essay Of Revenge (1625) that the wild justice of personal revenge is a fundamental challenge to the rule of law. Of Revenge by Francis Bacon Revenge is a kind of wild justice; which the more mans nature runs to, the more ought law to weed it out. For as for the first wrong, it doth but offend the law; but the revenge of that wrong putteth the law out of office. Certainly, in taking revenge, a man is but even with his enemy; but in passing it over, he is superior; for it is a princes part to pardon. And Solomon, I am sure, saith, It is the glory of a man to pass by an offence. That which is past is gone, and irrevocable; and wise men have enough to do with things present and to come; therefore they do but trifle with themselves, that labor in past matters. There is no man doth a wrong for the wrongs sake; but thereby to purchase himself profit, or pleasure, or honor, or the like. Therefore why should I be angry with a man for loving himself better than me? And if any man should do wrong merely out of ill-nature, why, yet it is but like the thorn or briar, which prick and scratch, because they can do no other. The most tole rable sort of revenge is for those wrongs which there is no law to remedy; but then let a man take heed the revenge be such as there is no law to punish; else a mans enemy is still before hand, and it is two for one. Some, when they take revenge, are desirous the party should know whence it cometh. This is the more generous. For the delight seemeth to be not so much in doing the hurt as in making the party repent. But base and crafty cowards are like the arrow that flieth in the dark. Cosmus, duke of Florence, had a desperate saying against perfidious or neglecting friends, as if those wrongs were unpardonable; You shall read (saith he) that we are commanded to forgive our enemies; but you never read that we are commanded to forgive our friends. But yet the spirit of Job was in a better tune: Shall we (saith he) take good at Gods hands, and not be content to take evil also? And so of friends in a proportion. This is certain, that a man that studieth revenge keeps his own wounds green, which otherwise would heal and do well. Public revenges are for the most part fortunate; as that for the death of Caesar; for the death of Pertinax; for the death of Henry the Third of France; and many more. But in private revenges it is not so. Nay rather, vindictive persons live the life of witches; who, as they are mischievous, so end they infortunate.
